Peregrine home offers model home amenities
Wow - If I could, that's all I would say about this week's spotlight home, listed for $1,059,000 by Stephanie Farr Kohlman of Petra Real Estate. However, because you've turned here to read about this home, I won't stop there.
Driving up the winding road to this Peregrine area home on the west side of Colorado Springs is awe inspiring, as the mountains rise up in front of you and the city spreads out behind you. A winding driveway - heated, so no more slipping or shoveling in the winter - leads to the home.
Even from the entryway it's easy to see why this home was a Parade of Homes model and MAME Grand winner in 2004. The home has a lot of hidden features, says Kohlman, who is also the seller of the home. "I have heard the word ‘wow' at this front door I don't know how many times," she says.
Kohlman calls the home's design "organic contemporary." The home has a lodge feel without being too rustic. Soaring ceilings and tall windows allow views of Blodgett Peak and open space surrounding the home. But buyers won't find any antlers or log walls inside.
The home has nice flow, enhanced by curved staircases leading up and down in different directions, as well as wooden beams arching across the great room ceiling and a winding wooden path that intercuts the carpet between the great room and the dining area.
Rope lighting throughout the house, including on the tops of the beams spanning the ceiling, adds ambience. The home really glows at night, Kohlman says.
Adjacent to the great room and the dining area sits the kitchen. "The nicest part is the kitchen," says Kohlman.
Sliding glass doors open completely, hiding in the wall to create a wide open area between the kitchen and patio. Outside, buyers will find a stone patio, lots of trees, Xeriscaping, a waterfall that recirculates - meaning there's no pond to clean - and a hot tub easily accessed from the master suite. There's also views of the bluffs and, at night, the city lights. "It's like having a vacation at home," Kohlman says.
Inside, a grand-piano-shaped granite counter tops the stainless-steel base of the island. The island includes attached seating and a double sink. The rest of the counter tops are made from mesquite and add to the kitchen's unique look. Mesquite is very hard, says Kohlman, but easy to take care of.
Other features in the kitchen include a pot filler, a professional range, a built-in fridge, a warming drawer, a walk-in pantry, a wine refrigerator and - something I've never seen before - an electric knife drawer. The drawer slides out with a cutting board hiding the knives. It's one of the many little touches the home boasts due to it being a Parade home.
Triple-pane windows add insulation and keep out outside noise. It's a very quiet home, Kohlman says. But if you want to add your own noise, the entire house is wired for sound, including volume controls in each room.
The master bedroom has a two-sided copper-slate gas fireplace cut into a mountain range across the top. Rope lighting along the range creates a sunset effect. This fireplace, and others in the home, give off a lot of heat, Kohlman says, adding she hardly uses the furnace all winter.
More rope lighting surrounds the base of the vanity in the master bath and is on a motion detector. Buyers don't have to worry about bumbling around in the dark, looking for a light switch if they have to make a late-night trip to the bathroom.
The bath also features a two-sided vanity with a mirror hanging from the ceiling between the two sinks. The double-entry shower has body jets, two shower heads and a bench. A jetted tub sits in the corner with a big window above to take in the view while you soak.
A full-size stacked washer and dryer, as well as a built-in ironing board, in the walk-in closet offers a convenient way to get through laundry day - just wash, dry and put clothes away, without dragging baskets up and down the stairs. A full-size laundry room resides on the lower level, but Kohlman calls that the kids' laundry.
The main level office could be used as a music room. There's plenty of space for a baby grand piano. The room offers a view of Blodgett Peak.
A second, much larger, office sits on the upper level. Built-in file cabinets line the walls, and windows along three walls provide views of the mountains. "(The room) is like a snow globe in the winter, with the snow all around," says Kohlmann.
While the room makes a perfect home office, it could serve as a bedroom. It has a walk-in closet and a three-quarter bath.
The wood stairs going up and down are cut to look like brick with wood trim. Cork grout adds a unique look and creates a non-slip surface.
The lower level houses a rec room, three bedrooms and two baths. Concrete stained floors look good and make for easy clean up if someone drops a soda or messy snack. A small exercise space walks out to the front of the house. The rec room is open with a large bar with rope lighting. The bar has a granite counter top and a built-in wine rack. A full-size refrigerator and a large-screen TV remain with the home.
Two of the lower-level bedrooms share a Jack-and-Jill bath. One of those bedrooms has its own vanity to make getting ready in the morning less of a struggle for the bathroom. The third bedroom is adjacent to a three-quarter bath that also serves the common area.
An alarm system includes wires in the screens on ground-level windows so there's no fear of leaving them open for ventilation. Other features of this home including recirculating water heaters, a steam humidifier that works even when the furnace is not running and a central vac system.
